The Best White Flowers For Your Garden

Leland P. WinninghamOctober 20, 2022

On hot summer days, white flowers can bring a refreshing effect to your garden. White flowers are luminous in the evenings, making them ideal for planting along paths or against patios or decks. Here are some of our favourite white flowers.

Lily-of-the-Valley

This ground cover is a classic favourite. It has a sweet, lingering scent. It is a great choice for shade and has small white flowers that can spread quickly.

Iceberg Rose

The ‘Iceberg’ is one of the most reliable types of white flowers. It produces large clusters of fragrant, cream-white flowers all year.

Annabelle Hydrangea

Annabelle hydrangea, one of the easiest white flowers, is very simple to grow. The flowers bloom in midsummer and produce large clusters of pure white flowers that can be cut.

Japanese Anemone

The Japanese anemone is a great choice for fall garden-cut flowers. It produces cup-shaped blooms in pink and white. You may need to spread it a little; make sure it is in a place where it can grow.

Lilac

Beautiful flowers don’t just come from annuals or perennials. Beautiful white flowers can be found in many shrubs, including lilac.

Use it with: Lilacs can grow so large that they are difficult to plant with a partner. Try dwarf selections with shrub roses or peonies for a stunning spring combination.

Calla

Calla, another favourite cut flower, is a tender, vase-shaped plant. Callas are most commonly white but can also be found in yellow, orange and pink.

Cup Flower

Cup flowers can add fine texture to your border or in containers. Over ferny leaves produce purple, white, and lavender flowers all summer.

Sweet Autumn Clematis

The sweet autumn clematis will fill your garden with its sweet fragrance at the end of summer. To climb this vine, it needs to be supported.

Shasta Daisy

The Shasta daisy is one of the most cheerful perennials. It has simple white flowers with yellow centres that last most of the summer.

Vinca anual

The annual vinca is characterized by its white, saucer-shaped flowers in saturated colours of red, pink, purple, and rose. However, the white varieties are the most striking.

Queen Anne’s Lace

These easy-to-grow cut flowers produce umbrella-shaped clusters with lacy blooms that appear in the middle to late summer. It is a relative of the carrot and has a taproot. However, it doesn’t transplant well but can reseed gregariously.

Iris of Immortality

The tall bearded Irises are beautiful garden plants. However, the pure-white ‘Immortality” is a must-have because they often rebloom in the late summer.

Datura

This lovely annual is perfect for evening gardens. It’s white trumpet-shaped, perfumed flowers are open at dusk and stay open until dawn.
